We are all leaders in one capacity or another. As Jim Collins remarked,

This is because leadership is all about influencing yourself and others. In fact, this is a great definition of leadership, because in its essence, leadership is influence.
“Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less.” – John C. Maxwell
So, if we are all leaders, what can we do to improve our leadership?

Leadership development starts with our own frame of mind. We need to want to change and improve. If we also get curious about what it is to be a good leader, then we are well on the way to developing a growth mindset and taking a step forward in our personal development.

Leadership Foundations: Personal Leadership
The foundation of all good leadership is effective personal leadership. This is the first level in the five levels of leadership. Personal leadership is important to everyone because we all have an influence on ourselves and anyone we come into contact with. Also, we are not the leader in every context we experience.
Mastering personal leadership is particularly important for those who have not managed others before. As Stephen Covey points out in The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, we first need success in the private sphere before we look for success in the public arena.
